Pasting MMA commands into AIM or e-mail
Mathematica typesets mathematical symbols. So, a fraction looks like a fraction.
A square root looks like a square root. Calculus has more math symbols
(integrals, derivatives, etc) that are not part of any font you use in IM or e-mail.
So, you can't just copy and paste from Mathematica into IM or e-mail.
Well, maybe you can. Try it. It might look really weird when you paste it into an
e-mail message. But, when you copy it out of the e-mail message and back into
Mathematica it might render correctly. It might not.
In any case, you can tell Mathematica to forget all of the fancy typesetting and write
everything as regular ASCII text with lots of extra words indicating where the typesetting should occur.
Then you can safely copy and paste from MMA to e-mail or IM and back to MMA.
To copy MMA code and paste into AIM or an
e-mail first select (highlight) the code you want to send (or highlight the cell bracket to grab
the whole cell), then go to the Cell Menu and select Convert To -> InputForm.
This will change the code from nice mathematical typesetting into a pure text form
that can be copied and pasted. So now you can just copy the code and paste it into your message.
Checking your e-mail
You have an OSU e-mail account. We will be e-mailing you at that account address. It is your

What to do if CMS is down If CMS is down that is not an excuse for you not to work.
If CMS is down and you need to get on it to get your graded notebook, well, duh!, you can't. Work on
another question in another section or the literacy sheet or something. Don't just sit there crying.
If CMS is down and you need to get on it to hand in your notebook, well, duh!, you can't. Work on
another question in another section or the literacy sheet or something. Don't just sit there whining.
There is no waiting in this class. There is never a time when you cannot do something because you are waiting for us.
If you are waiting for us then you are violating just about every rule that there is around here. There is nothing
in this course, no question you have, no feedback coming that prevents you from doing something else.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DO YOU SEND MMA NOTEBOOKS AS EMAIL ATTACHMENTS!!!!!
ALL homework files are exchanged via the CMS. ALL of them.
What to do if you cannot use your e-mail
If you cannot send or receive e-mail then there are several possibilities...
You are using OSU's WebMail. Try back again later. There are lots of reasons that you may not be able to access
WebMail, but they should clear up shortly.
You are forwarding e-mail to your school's email server. Ask your site coordinator.
They can then ask your school's tech person.
You forwarding to a national service. Try back again later.
We understand technology around here. So, we don't panic very often.
However, if the problems persist then start to panic. Find a way to communicate with us and let us know
what is happening. We might be able to help. It might be your school and we can contact them for you. Communication
is everythign around here. Do not stay out of touch from us for very long. You will find yourself isolated and that
leads to frustration.
What to do if you cannot fax us
Tell someone quick, either e-mail/IM the Hotline, your mentor, or Lee. Tell them what is happening.
Our FAX server may be down and we need to reboot it.
What to do if all else fails
Tell us. We cannot help if we do not know you have a problem.
